Saturday, Game 1 - U12s
The puck dropped at 6:00AM against the home team SJ Sharks. The U12s played with heart and good energy, but it was not enough to overcome the SJ team. The U12s played better and better during the game, losing the 3rd period (0-1), which showed they can skate with anyone, but the final was (1-8).
Saturday, Game 1 - U14s
The U14s came out strong and did not look back as they posted a (3-1) win over a strong Viper team. Several penalties created problems for the NWS but their net tending and defense staved off any advantage given. The U14s played well in this opener.
Saturday, Game 1 - U19s [Game Pictures]
The U19s came out strong against Colorado Selects, controlling the puck, and the game. They posted 2 goals, but Colorado came back with 2 of their own to tie the game, which ended (2-2). The U19s played a smart, yet physical game.
Saturday - U12s Game 2
The U12s played a very good game against the Arizona Selects in their second outing. They were giving up a lot of size to Arizona, but played bigger than their size would dictate. The U12s lost (0-8) but it was a great game to watch and a good game for the NWS girls to stretch themselves.
Saturday - U14s Game 2
The U14s were up against one of the tournament favorites, the Lady Duck. They played them shift for shift better than any other team there, but could not find the magic in this game and lost it (0-3)
Saturday - U19s Game 2 [Game Pictures]
The U19s played one of their best games of the season against the Richmond Tier 1 team. Richmond took the lead (0-1) off of a deflection from a skate, but the NWS came back with a goal from Kirsch, Charron assist. The contest went to the last 5 minutes when Richmond get a second in a scramble and that was enough to hand the NWS the lost (1-2).
Sunday – U12 Game 3
The U12s played a great game in the morning against Langley Canada. The contest was close and showed the improvement that the team had made from their first 2. Losing (1-3) the U12s were getting closer and closer to a win.
Sunday - U14 Game 3
The U14s took on a Richmond Canada team short a player who was hurt in the Duck's game (not serious). The Richmond team was very good in their forecheck and that through off the NWS passing game. The NWS took good quality shots but could not capitalize on the rebounds, so they dropped the game (0-4).
Sunday - U19 Game 3 [Game Pictures]
Another tough loss to another Canadian team, Meadow Ridge. (1-3) The U19s played a good game and had many chances to score, but found everything but the net in the contest. They clearly out played the component, but the score took a different direction.
Sunday – U12 Game 4
The second game on Sunday for the U12s was the game to watch for the day as the U12s lined up against Team Alaska. The U12s took the lead and held it for about a period, but Alaska came back to tie the contest (1-1). Both teams were awesome in all aspects of the game, but the net-tenders were up to the task. Regulation ended (1-1) so the shoot-out started. There were 7 shooters for each team!!! In the NWS net was Moore who stood on her head making save after save to stone Alaska on all 7 attempts … but the Alaska tender did the same, so the game was called a (1-1) tie, giving the U12s their first tie of the weekend.
Sunday – U14 Game 4
The U14s were un-stoppable in their second contest of the day. Injured player, Damson, came back with a charge of her own and played great … the whole team did, posting a (4-0) win over Langley Canada. The U14s stole the show and displayed the level of play that we all saw in their tournament win in Burnaby.
Sunday – U19 Game 4 [Game Pictures]
The U19s were hungry for a win after such a close (loss) to Richmond. They came out against the Colorado Springs girls hard and fast, and never looked back. Winning (5-0), the U19s ended the tournament on a high note and showed that they can play with anyone.
Magic in the air that night …
As the weekend came to a close a mist of magic fell upon that late night rink …
The U14 team, hot and sweaty, went straight from their game to the rink where the U19s were just finishing up. After the 19s passed through the handshake line and skated to the door off the ice surface, the two teams became as one in a moment they will always remember – celebrating their collective wins ... giving a group cheer ... laughing and hanging on to one another in a way of saying – thank you for being on my team, thank you for being my team mate, and most of all, thank you parents for a dream come true – NW Female Hockey is alive!
For those of us at the rink that night, it will be the moment of magic forever. Players, Coaches & Parents – thank you for giving us all that moment.
Great Job By All the Teams.
Go Selects!!!
