Teka Parks joined the NW Selects in 2005 as an assistant coach, helping to win the first NWS tournament she was on the bench for. Teka began her skating career in Wenatchee, Washington. She later moved to Lynnwood, Washington to increase her training opportunities. During this period, Teka began playing hockey full time with the Seattle Junior girls U-19 team. The team was highly successful and won at the District Tournament twice, and made trips to Nationals.

After graduating from Lynnwood High School, Teka attended Concordia College, a Division III University in Moorhead, Minnesota. There she played for the Concordia women’s hockey team, after which she moved to Bellingham, Washington to attend WWU.
